Please Read BEFORE Registering for the 2021 Hixon 50
With the uncertainty surrounding athletic events this year, we wanted to let everyone know upfront and be very clear on what our policy is with refunds, deferrals, future discounts, etc. While we hope that the event goes off without a hitch at the end of October, the uncertainty surrounding this current pandemic has prompted this message to you all.
As our website states and our policy has always been:
"Per the terms and conditions of race registration, refunds/changes/transfers/deferrals are not allowed."
This policy is not in place to deceive or take advantage of anyone's trust in our event. This policy exists due to the nature of producing an ultramarathon to the standard that we have come to expect from the Hixon 50. The reasoning that refunds are not able to be offered is due to the timeline that shirts, awards and all other participant services have been ordered far in advance of everyone toeing the starting line. While it is true that certain costs like tents and porta-potties are not incurred if the event is cancelled far in advance, it is also true that a large majority of our registrations (and funds to pay for everything) comes in closer to race day. In short, the money coming in pays for the event that you experience on race day.
We are proud to be the longest standing race in the La Crosse area that directly benefits the trails on which we train, recreate and race on. All proceeds beyond our expenses are donated to either the Outdoor Recreation Alliance (ORA), or the City of La Crosse Trails Fund. Both of these organizations have worked together to create the incredible trail system that has been and is still being developed in Hixon Forest. It is our intention that any additional funds in the event of a cancellation will continue to be donated to these two organizations to continue their missions and improve the trails on which our event is so fortunate to occupy.
We understand that this time is and will continue to be tough financially for so many, so we ask that if you have any reservation about signing up in advance to please wait until closer to race day to make that decision. We will do our best to update everyone on how close we are to our registration capacity on our Facebook Page, as well as through email communication leading up to event day, to avoid anyone missing out on their opportunity to join us this fall.
Thank you all for understanding and if you do have further comments or questions, please direct them to our main email address at [email protected] and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
Until race day,
Tyler, Michael and Jake (Hixon 50 Race Directors)
