How the 2020 Virtual Hixon 50 Races Will Work: |
Many of us have done several types of virtual runs and races this year, so we wanted to let you know what ours would look like. Check out the details below and let us know if you have questions about the runs.
-Self reported times on RunSignUp.com. -All entrants will receive a race shirt. -Run any course you would like, just hit the distance. -Share your photos on our Facebook Page to be entered to win a prize pack with Hixon swag (10 given away!) |
Virtual Race F.A.Q.
Am I signed up for the virtual race?
-By default, all participants were signed up for the virtual race. If you signed up for the 2020 Hixon 50 and did not tell us to defer, donate, or refund your registration, you are signed up for the virtual race. Want to double check your registration? Head to the event page HERE and click on "Find a Participant" to search for your name. If you see any issues, let us know.
Can I still sign up for the virtual race?
-Absolutely you can! Head on over to the Registration Page and get signed up today to join in on the fun.
I chose to defer/donate/receive a refund, but still received a virtual race confirmation email.
-When transferring the full participant list over to our new platform (RunSignUp), a confirmation email was mistakenly sent out to all participants prior to changing those of you who had requested it. If you chose deferral, you have been deferred. If you chose a donation, THANK YOU! If you chose a refund, it has been processed. If you have questions about this, please reach out to us at [email protected]
I forgot to complete the survey, is it too late?
-Definitely not! Switching you to virtual was just step one and can easily be undone. If you still need to fill out the survey and can't find the link, you can complete it HERE, or just send us an email letting us know your preference. If you choose to defer, donate, or get a refund, we will send a confirmation email letting you know that your preference has been noted and changed. If you choose virtual, you're all set to go and are ready to run!
I'm doing the virtual race. Where/When/How do I run?
-This is the great part about virtual races, you can run wherever, whenever and however you would like! The window for running your race distance and submitting your results is now open and will be open through the original race weekend (through Sunday November 1st).
Will you be marking the course at all?
-The main reason for cancelling the in-person event is to discourage people from outside of La Crosse from traveling into the area. With that said, a large portion of our runners are from right here in the Coulee Region and we want you to be able to get the best experience possible. We will be marking the course the last week of October for one week, but will be doing so quite a bit lighter than in previous years. Please don't expect normal Hixon markings with big signs, roped off wrong trails, spray paint on the ground, etc. This marking will be small signs at confusing turns to help guide you. We'll monitor these signs when we can, but please be aware that course vandalism is a huge problem in a set up like this, especially in such a highly travelled trail system that La Crosse has.
In summary: we will mark the course LIGHTLY for one week at the end of October, but please, if you're not from the area, do not travel here to run the course.
Will you provide a course map?
-We will be providing GPX files for each of the routes within the next week for those locals who wish to run the course and follow a GPS watch, or similar device along the course. As we stated before, this is meant for local residents, please don't travel to run. Check out all of the GPX files on our Course Maps page on the website.
How do I submit my results?
-Log into the new race platform at RunSignUp.com, or simply head to the race page HERE, click on "Results", then "Submit Virtual Results" near the top. Search for your name, enter your time and voila! If you have any issues with this process, we're always here to help; just ask!
When/how do I get my swag?
-All shirts, finisher awards and any other ordered swag will be shipped out beginning the last week of October, the original race week. We are not doing an in-person pick up in La Crosse for this year. If you have changed addresses since signing up, please send us your new mailing address ASAP to [email protected].
Speaking of swag, what do we get this year?
-This year's race shirt can be seen below. All runners will get this long sleeve and will also receive a finisher's medallion created by the same artists, Lila and Josh, that create our unique mugs each year. Sorry, but no mugs will be mailed out this year due to the high cost of mailing such a fragile item.
Can we buy other swag?
-We're glad you asked! We currently have the race long sleeve and our 2020 Hixon 50 sweatshirt for sale on our website HERE! In addition, we're working with Mt. Borah (local company!) to create some truly unique winter running hats. We are only ordering 200 of these one-of-a-kind hats, so look for the announcement on these being available on our Facebook page and website within the next week. All items will be shipped when available near the end of October.
If you previously ordered a sweatshirt during registration, your sweatshirt will be shipped at the end of October along with your race shirt. If you chose to defer to 2021, or donate your entry, your sweatshirt will still be shipped this year along with the others.
Cool, but can I get some more swag for free?
-If you finish your race and share your experience and photos with us on our Facebook page, you will be entered to win one of 10 prize packages including the swag mentioned above (pending size availability). We want everyone to remember that we're all in this together, so share those photos and win cool stuff!
